Missouri is a state in the Midwest region of United States and St. Louis is one of the four largest city in Missouri.

There is an iconic image of St. Louis. To date, it is the highest habitable structure in Missouri. It is known as The Gateway Arch, also known as the Gateway to the West, symbolize St. Louis as a "Gateway" between the east and western United States. Standing 630 feet (192 m) tall and 630 feet (192 m) wide at its base, it is the tallest monument in the United States.

The Arch is a structure known as a catenary curve, the shape a free-hanging chain takes when held at both ends, and considered the most structurally-sound arch shape. The span of the Arch legs at ground level is 630 feet, the same as its height.

It was designed by Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen and structural engineer Hannskarl Bandel in 1947.
